A moving story that takes place in the 90’s, during the Special Period in Cuba.

It’s September 2000, the Olympic Games are being held in Sydney and Mauricio spends his 60th birthday in Havana: a man alone and devastated by the unexpected death of his wife. The last 12 years of Mauricio’s life are recounted through a series of passages, in which the present and the past are skilfully intertwined to present the diverse and defining moments in Mauricio’s life. By linking the personal to the social context of the 90’s – a decade marked by deep political, economic and social changes – Manuel Pérez offers us a window into the lives of those who were forced to endure profound changes just as the new millennium dawned.
